I cut them open, sand the face smooth and seal it under clear resin so you can wear it. Every pendant is the only one like it. When it sells, it’s gone.

How a cone becomes a pendant
A pine cone’s scales grow in spirals, usually 8 one way and 13 the other. Slice across the spirals and they turn into a star. Slice along them and you get a comet.
Hunt
It starts with finding the right cone. Most aren’t.
Reveal
One cut opens it. Across the cone for stars and rings. Lengthwise for comets. On a slant for rosettes.
Sand
The cut face is sanded flat and smooth until the pattern is crisp.
Seal
Clear resin goes on in a dome. It deepens the color and protects the surface.
Hang and display
A hand-wrapped wire loop at the top, then a braided cord. Wear it, or hang it where the light catches it.

- Resin is tough, not scratch-proof. Take it off to swim or shower, keep it out of a hot car, and wipe it with a soft cloth.
